Orlando EDC Hires New Senior Vice President

Orlando, Fla. The Orlando Economic Development Commission (EDC) announced that Dave Porter, CEcD, will be joining the organization as Senior Vice President, Business Development. He will begin his new role by the end of the month.

Porter comes to Orlando after serving as the senior vice president of economic development for the Austin Chamber of Commerce in Austin, Texas, where he led the Opportunity Austin initiative since its inception. He received numerous accolades for his work over the years and became the envy of economic development organizations nationwide.

“We are thrilled to have someone of the caliber of Dave Porter join our team,” said Rick Weddle, president and CEO of the Orlando EDC. “He has a proven track record of success throughout the years and has a great network of existing relationships that will serve our region well.”

Porter has more than 30 years of executive management experience in economic development. In addition to his work in Austin, he has directed programs for the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce, Kansas Department of Commerce, North Carolina Global Transpark Authority and Wichita/Sedgwick County Partnership for Growth, Inc.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Wichita State University and is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma’s Economic Development Institute. He has held his Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) status since 1994.
