| One Orlando Entrepreneur Tumbles His Way to Success | |
| Currently there are no clothes dryers on the market that meet the Department of Energy’s criteria to receive an Energy Star rating for energy efficiency. Once an energy standard is officially in place, Michael E. Brown and his Hydronic Clothes Dryer™ may well become the first of its kind to obtain this honor. Clothes dryers can be found in over 80 percent of US homes today and are second on the list of most energy consuming appliances in the household, right behind the refrigerator. The Department of Energy is interested in reducing the energy consumption rates of today’s everyday domestic machinery, representing an opportunity for new innovative clothes drying methods of which the Hydronic Clothes Dryer™ might fit the bill. Brown, Orlando entrepreneur and former appliance repair technician, has developed an innovative, safe and energy-efficient clothes dryer. As founder and president of his 2-year-old company, Hydromatic Technologies Corporation, Brown created the novel clothes drying system by using “hydronic” technology that can be built into new dryers or retrofitted into old ones. Hydronics refers to the utilization of water or other fluids as a medium to transfer heat from one location to another. The retrofit will cost an estimated $200 and will pay for itself in energy savings within one year. The Hydronic Clothes Dryer™ consumes less than 1/3 the energy of today’s most efficient clothes dryer and effectively dries clothing with energy efficient “Heat Transfer Fluid” and a patent pending self-contained heat generation device. During various drying periods, it consumes less energy than a 60 watt light bulb as it continuously dries clothing with clean, odor-free, non-combustible heat that also significantly reduces fabric shrinkage. Since the dryer does not use a combustible heat source, it makes it the safest mechanical heat generating clothes dryer in the appliance industry. In contrast, today’s luxury gas and electric dryers consume nearly 7000 watts of power per hour to dry a load of clothes and utilize a highly combustible source of heat. This heat source is extremely hot and has lead to an excessive amount of dryer fires. In addition to the Hydronic Clothes Dryer™, Brown is set to introduce a Solar and Photovoltaic Clothes Dryer, both vented and non-vented, into the market soon. With the mission to provide the world with a superior product by reducing cost, increasing safety and maximizing convenience, Brown and his innovative hydromatic technologies have the potential of wide scale commercialization.
