Metro Orlando's development as an
international center of commerce has been profound. Today, high
tech products such as scientific instruments, medical equipment,
microchips and telecom equipment, are some of the region’s
predominant export products. These exports are sent to countries
all over Asia, Europe and Latin America.
As part of our global outreach, the EDC provides direct
consultation services to local businesses interested in
establishing or expanding overseas trade. The EDC's International
Business Development team promotes and supports local industry in
several ways:
Tradeshows
The EDC helps coordinate opportunities for Metro Orlando companies
to participate in international tradeshows. These shows provide a
venue for these companies to demonstrate new products and/or new
additions to existing product lines and to make hundreds of
potential new international business contacts.
Trade Missions
International trade missions are matchmaking events with
appointments scheduled for local companies with potential
international partners. Coordinated through the U.S. Department of
Commerce, or one of Enterprise Florida’s international offices,
these missions are the perfect activity for companies whose
products/services are not easily explained since they provide an
opportunity for in-depth presentations.
Export Counseling
The EDC team visits hundreds of Metro Orlando companies each year
to discuss the many issues related to international trade. This
export counseling can include answers to shipping, legal and other
technical questions. The EDC also frequently matches local
companies with experts in the area through a referral service
designed to meet specific needs. Last year alone, more than 400
local companies received export counseling from the EDC.
Inbound Trade Missions
In conjunction with partners such as Enterprise Florida, the EDC
also coordinates several inbound trade missions each year. These
missions also help match local companies with potential
international partners and promote greater trade between Orlando
and the visiting region. Many of these missions are focused on
Metro Orlando’s strength in technology products.
Export Roadshows
The EDC hosts a series of export roadshows across the Metro Orlando
region. These shows are designed for companies that are new to
exporting products. These events include international attorneys,
international CPA’s, government organizations, freight forwarders,
bankers and other international service companies who can answer a
variety of questions related to international trade.
