Industry Organization & Involvement

Metro Orlando features a number of different industry associations and advisory councils that are focused on advancing the digital media sector:

Following are brief overviews of a sampling of these organizations.

Digital Media Alliance Florida (DMAF)
DMAF is a non-profit industry association whose mission is to support and aggressively promote Florida’s leadership in the research, development, application and usage of interactive, dynamic and experiential digital media for:

  • Learning
  • Entertainment
  • Marketing
  • Information

Headquartered in Orlando, the association facilitates collaboration and partnerships among the digital media industry and government, educational, creative and financial organizations to strengthen the industry and workforce for global competition.

Florida Motion Picture and Television Association (FMPTA)
FMPTA (Orlando/Central Florida Chapter) is a not-for-profit organization comprising volunteer members involved in all areas of Florida’s production industry. The primary objective of FMPTA is to encourage and facilitate increased film, video and sound recording production in Florida.

International Game Developers Association (IGDA) Orlando Chapter
IGDA Orlando is the local chapter of the International Game Developers Association, the largest non-profit membership organization serving individuals that create video games.  IGDA is committed to advancing the careers and enhancing the lives of game developers by connecting members with their peers, promoting professional development, and advocating on issues that affect the developer community.

Metro Orlando Film Commission
A division of the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission, the objective of the Metro Orlando Film Commission is to:

  • Attract production to the region
  • Serve as a resource to the local production community
  • Spearhead the region’s growth as a digital media center

National Center for Simulation (NCS)
NCS was formed in 1994 to advance simulation technologies and serve as an essential link between government, industry and academia engaged in research, development and applications of this sector. Its three main objectives for the next five years are to help:

  • Create a vibrant simulation community that is relatively insulated from economic downturns
  • Expand the range of simulation technology applications
  • Provide a national communications forum and information sharing network for simulation professionals, practitioners and decision-makers

Orlando Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) SIGGRAPH Chapter
The Orlando ACM SIGGRAPH Chapter is a member of the global network of diverse communities, comprised of artists, scientists, developers and educators devoted to the advancement of the art and science of computer graphics and interactive techniques. The Chapter was founded in 1991 by a group of dedicated computer graphics enthusiasts and is organized and operated exclusively for educational, artistic and scientific purposes.  Specific objectives are to promote an increased knowledge of, and greater interest in, the science, art, design, development and applications of modern computing in computer graphics. The chapter promotes cross-industry interaction and multidisciplinary creativity with professionals, students, educators, artists, musicians, designers, programmers and vendors.

Women in Film & Television - Florida (WIFT-FL)
WIFT-FL is charged with building positive images of media-makers, empowering them to achieve their highest professional and creative potential, and helping create more job opportunities throughout Florida, with primary focus on Central Florida.

In addition to the numerous professional events attended and hosted by the Metro Orlando EDC, other trade organizations hold various local and nationally attended events such as:

  • Florida Educational Technology Conference (FETC)
    The FETC was established in 1996 with the objective of advocating and supporting the use of technology in education by providing an annual world class conference and other initiatives for the education community.
  • International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Convention (IAAPA)
    The IAAPA annual convention features the latest, most innovative products and services from around the world. Attendees can network with 30,000 colleagues from more than 100 countries, see firsthand the latest technology from the industry's biggest names, and check out the next generation of crowd-pleasing, revenue generating entertainment.
  • MegaCon
    This annual show is the Southeast’s premier comic, sci-fi, anime, gaming and multi-media event. The conference attracts over 200 top professionals and features extensive gaming and continuous anime rooms.
