Regional Talent Development Director

Given the critical role talent availability and attraction plays in supporting local business expansion and recruitment, the Metro Orlando Economic Development Commission has an immediate opening for a Regional Talent Development Director, herein, the Director. This new position will lead the development and implementation of the EDC’s talent initiative which will define organizational and community initiatives to support client companies’ talent acquisition needs. The Director will be both an in-house consultant to EDC project managers and a knowledge asset for existing and relocating companies within the EDC’s target sectors. The Director will maintain relationships with the region’s top HR Executives as well as local colleges and universities. The Director will be a key member of the Business Development Team and report to Executive Vice President of Business Development.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build relationships with local human resource professionals of client companies to identify key labor trends and needs in the EDC’s target industry sectors.
  • Work with designated human resource professionals to provide community support to EDC clients that are recruiting key employees from other geographic markets.  This will involve promoting Central Florida as a great place to live while client companies’ are promoting their organization and available positions.
  • Develop and implement the EDC’s talent initiative to recruit and develop the workforce necessary to grow target industry sectors.
  • Conduct talent development activities, including the recruitment, retention and expansion of key industry talent at all levels.  Techniques to be deployed will include sales, marketing and targeted outreach. The Director will be responsible for assuming a higher-than-ordinary level of expertise in the talent requirements and challenges facing each of the EDC’s targeted industry sectors. 
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with state and local workforce development organizations and to keep the business development team and local employers informed of all trends and programs.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with local human resource executives and search firms that can either provide data to the EDC or provide assistance to facilitate the growth of the key industry sectors.
  • Work with local universities to explore strategies to recruit and retain college students and alumni, with a particular focus on the target areas of science, technology, engineering and math.
  • Work as a key member of the Business Development team to analyze, report and present on labor issues critical to growing the EDC’s target industry sectors. Provide input on the EDC’s business development strategies and support implementation by serving as a project team member as needed.
  • Work with the EDC’s business intelligence team to develop and report local labor trends in target sectors.  Work with the business intelligence team to identify and manage labor studies as needed.
  • Support EDC business development projects with workforce data, analysis, reports and presentations.  Provide sales and aftercare support to EDC clients with special workforce recruitment and relocation needs.
  • Provide project support for the EDC Education Foundation and EDC scholars' program.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and trade secrets of the EDC and its clients at all times.  To the greatest extent possible, the Director will be responsible for protecting information relevant to projects pursuant to the client's request and all provisions of Florida’s statutes.
  • Responsible for the implementation of their individual work plan pursuant to the strategic business plan of the EDC.  The Director will assist in the development of their individual work plan as well as the Business Development Team’s section of the strategic business plan and related budgets. 
  • Promote investment in the EDC within the community. The level of involvement and sales approach will be appropriately determined in cooperation with the investor relations team.

Job Qualifications

  • College degree in a related field required.
  • 5-10 years of related professional experience required.
  • Ability to identify, analyze and present key labor trends.
  • Strong organizational, sales and customer service skills with a proven ability to develop relationships and negotiate deals.
  • Familiarity with metro Orlando businesses, community development organizations, and the area’s human resource community required.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communications skills and must be experienced in making presentations to large groups.
  • Reliable transportation and able to travel for up to one week at a time.
  • Computer savvy and able to effectively utilize the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as an integral part of a team in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
